The Ouse Valley Group of the National Vintage Tractor and Engine Club, began
its life as the West Anglian Machinery Society. After 4 years, a sub group was established to be known as the Ouse Valley Tractor Club.
This group was pioneered by Piers Calvert, Roy Summerfield, Jeff Harris and Mervyn Spokes. In 1986, Ray Wainwright took over as Chairman and led the club, until Keith Miller took over in
1989. From 1995 until 2012, Peter Wheeler chaired the club. Keith Durham then took the reins for 2 years, with Edward Garner taking on the position in 2014.
For nearly 40 years, the Ouse Valley Tractor Club has held an
annual working rally. The first rally was held in 1974 at Millbrook. A rally was held here every year until 1987, when the site changed to Beckerings Park, in Steppingley. Following
a change in management, a new site had to be found in 1996. Since this date, our rally has been held at St Jude's Farm, Haynes.
In December 2008, committee member Max Cherry, organised the first Ouse Valley Tractor Club ploughing match. This was held at Ridgmont and
was recognised as an inter-counties qualifier. Max is the nephew of one of the original pioneers, Piers Calvert. Piers took great interest in the group until he passed away in
2008. In his memory, the "Piers Calvert Cup" is awarded to the highest scoring club member. The
ploughing match is now an annual event.
