My winter project for 2009/2010 is a Claas Compact 25 Combine. It has an interesting history having been originally owned by an experimental crop grower prior to its purchase by Kevin at PA Turney. Kevin could no longer store the machine and that's how it came into my ownership.
Several repairs were needed before I could get it home, including the injector return pipe, starter relay and there was also a problem with the variable speed. Neil Tingey advised me on the variable speed problem and I was able to drive the machine home.
Once home, I got all the lights working, did some welding and gave it a good steam clean.
When my son came home from university, he couldn't wait to try it out. I got onto my insurers and had it covered quickly so that he and his friend could drive it to the storage shed on the farm, where it was sheeted as it doesn't quite fit into the shed.
The road speed is about 10 mph which means it won't be on the road run, this will stop other members moaning about being held up.
I now need two 15" tyres for the drive wheels, if any member has any, please let me know. I intend to carry out a repaint in the near future.
We (my son and I) intend to grow some wheat and beans for pig feed in 2010 when we will find out if the machine does all that it should.
I will keep members informed as I progress with the renovation and let members know when and where it will be in operation.
